14 <> QUESTIONS
???????????????????????????????????????????
CHALLENGING QUESTIONS FOR RESEARCHERS ??????????????????????????????????????????? The
internet is an amazing gift to researchers.
Are
old habits holding us back?
What
new habits will help us to exploit these opportunities to
the full? In
this electronic free-for-all of endless opportunities, what
can we do to make it work for us? How
is the internet likely to influence research in our field?
How
has the internet already influenced the way we do research?
Will
research become more homogenous or more diversified as a
result of this global sharing of research and our ideas about research? Will
researchers need to acquire internet skills and
cultivate
electronic relationships to complement traditional research skills? Will
the internet help us to close the gap between research
and
practice? Will
our adventures in cyberspace really help to enrich the
quality and effectiveness of adventures in the outdoors? Guess
the answers if you like - or take action to bring about
the
answers you want. Why
not take take the initiative? For example, try setting up a
closed or open research community around your interests at http://www.vicinities.com [link not working 01/10/2001] or at http://www.egroups.com Most
of the information above is drawn from past issues of
SiteFinder ezine. If you find innaccuracies or know of other good ways of using the internet for research (especially in outdoor learning) please contact me at roger@reviewing.co.uk so that I can improve this resource - for you and others. As
I learn more about ways of using this vast living library to
assist the quality of research in our field, I will be pleased to share your discoveries and mine through SiteFinder and through the outres discussion list - both of which have searchable web-based archives at: http://reviewing.co.uk/archives/index.htm http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/outres SiteFinder
Directory and SiteFinder Ezine are both dedicated to
helping you to explore this question: ''HOW
and WHY are people are using outdoor adventure for
learning, growth, development, empowerment, education, training, therapy, reflection or inspiration?'' <>
